Bloomingdale’s gift card packaging design

Aim: Bloomingdale’s wanted a distinctive solution to standard gift card packaging without straying from the brand identity they’ve built since 1860.

Strategy & Tactic: With their classic retail presence and history in mind, our goal was to create a solution that would draw shoppers in visually, encouraging engagement with the pack and increasing the likelihood of purchase with a clever and unique pack opening experience.

Target Audience: In-store and online Bloomingdale’s customers

Design: Burgopak designed and produced Bloomingdale’s new style of gift card packaging that incorporates Burgopak’s patented sliding mechanism. Sliding open to present a gift card, this packaging design mimics the other members of Bloomingdale’s trademark Brown Bag series. Simple graphics and identical materials seamlessly join this pack to their historic and iconic range of Little, Medium and Big Brown shopping bags.

A second gift card pack was later produced as part of a 2010 Earth Day effort. The “Little Green Card” was made from 70% post-consumer waste material without the use any finish.

End Result: The Little Brown Card continues to be a success, increasing gift card sales and continuing to build Bloomingdale’s brand equity. As well as drawing in shoppers visually, Burgopak’s engaging packaging design for Bloomingdale’s creates an enjoyable and memorable gift-receiving experience.
